After the pandemic, we began offering alumni artists the chance to stay in one of our houses at ChaNorth to create or unwind in a peaceful setting away from the cities. We have adapted and made some changes and our alumni artists and writers, ChaNorth supporters & friends can now choose from 6 studios and bedrooms. Personal retreats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Our facilities are designed to accommodate either single individuals or couples who wish to share a room and studio space.

To apply, please send an email ( chanorth@chashama.org ) with your preferred dates, a statement of purpose, and your studio requirements. There is no application process or jurying involved.

It is on a first-come, first-served basis. Minimum stay is 3 days. ​

Price:

$30/day for a single person,

$40/day for couples sharing, if a couple, only one of the artists has to be a Chanorth alumni, supporters and friends

Please note that during our winter retreat, we do not offer any programming like our summer residency session. However, it provides a peaceful space to create or relax.

​

Please note that it is advisable. to bring your car. The winters in Upstate NY can be harsh, resulting in snow days and icy roads. Our maintenance team cleans our driveway and car parks after snow, but it's your responsibility to keep your footpath clean. The maintenance team will come to clean the snow as soon as possible, but they have other properties to attend to. We cannot guarantee a specific time for driveway cleaning after heavy snowfall. Please keep in mind that if you plan to leave ChaNorth or have other commitments while staying, this may affect your arrangements.

What we offer.

• Each artist or couple will have their own private bedroom and bathroom, as well as a dedicated private studio.

• The following items are provided: sheets, towels, pillows, bedding, toilet paper, laundry soap, and dish soap.

• You have full access to the kitchen in your building. 

• Our WiFi system has been upgraded, offering excellent wireless internet access in every studio and bedroom.

What you need to provide

• You need to arrange your transportation to ChaNorth.

• Your food, groceries.

• Your art supplies, equipment, and materials.

• Payment in full at the time of booking.

House Rules and Regulations

• It is imperative that you maintain the tranquility of this environment and respect the privacy of others. 

• Please make sure to wash and dry your sheets and towels before checking out.

• It is important to clean the kitchen and sweep it daily.

• When checking out, please ensure that you do not leave any of your own food in the fridge or freezer.

• Please remember to dispose of your recycling and garbage at the end of your stay. Thank you.

• Please ensure that you clean up your workspace, bathroom, and studio before departing. Thank you.
